All I see is a black screen
There’s a difference between the TV not displaying anything, or displaying “No Signal” or “No Input” (see below), versus the TV showing a picture that is black. If the TV does not display anything, please make sure both the TV and the media player are plugged into power, and turned on. Also, make sure the HDMI cable is plugged in all the way.
Here's a list of the cables and settings you'll want to check:
- Power Cable – plugged into the media player and into a surge protector or power strip. Also, verify that the surge protector or power strip is turned ON. The media player does not need to be turned on – it will automatically turn on (if it is working properly) once it is plugged into power.
- HDMI Cable – verify it is securely plugged into both the media player, and the TV. Sometimes these can get loose and the signal will be lost.
- TV Input Setting – many TVs have several HDMI input ports. If so, these ports are usually labeled (such as HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc). TVs also have other inputs for PC, RGB, AV, etc. Most TVs have an Input or Source option on the TV itself, and/or on the remote control (you can switch among these – similar to switching channels). Verify the HDMI port into which you have plugged the cable (1, 2, etc), and verify, using the Input or Source button, that the TV source is set to the same HDMI port.
